SSC GD Constable Exam 2024 – Selection Procedure

The selection process for the SSC GD Constable Exam 2024 comprises four stages aimed at recruiting candidates for the constable position. These four stages are outlined as follows:

Stage I – Written Exam (CBT):

Candidates are required to successfully clear the online written exam, consisting of 80 questions carrying a total of 160 marks. Only those candidates who qualify in the written exam proceed to the next stage.

Stage II – Physical Standard Test/Physical Standard Test:

Candidates who clear the written exam move on to the next stage known as the Physical Standard Test (PST) in the SSC GD Selection Process 2024.

Stage III – Medical Test or Detailed Medical Examination (DME):

The third stage involves the medical examination of candidates, where a doctor/surgeon assesses them for any medical-related concerns.

Stage IV – Document Verification:

The final stage is the document verification process, during which the submitted documents of candidates undergo scrutiny by officers for the compilation of the final merit list.

Physical Eligibility Test

Physical Eligibility Test (PET) is a critical component that evaluates the physical strength and endurance of candidates. The Physical Eligibility Test encompasses a series of tasks that candidates must successfully undergo. These tasks are designed to assess various physical attributes and ensure that candidates meet the prescribed fitness standards set by the SSC. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Standards:

Race:

Male: Complete a 5 Km race within 24 minutes. 

Female: Cover a distance of 1.6 Kms within 8 ½ minutes (For candidates other than those belonging to Ladakh Region).

 Female (Ladakh Region): Complete 1.6 Kms in 6 ½ minutes or cover 800 meters in 4 minutes.

Candidates need to meet these specific standards based on their gender and regional categorization to successfully qualify in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) as part of the SSC GD Constable selection process.

Physical Standard Test (PST):

The Physical Standard Test (PST) sets out the physical eligibility criteria that candidates must fulfill. Below is the table detailing the required physical standards, including height and chest expansion, that candidates are expected to meet:

Male Candidates:

  • Height: 170 cm
  • Chest: 81 cm (Unexpanded) with a minimum expansion of 5 cm
  • For candidates belonging to the areas of Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, and candidates belonging to the states of Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, and Leh & Ladakh regions: Height can be relaxed by 5 cm, and chest standards remain the same.

Female Candidates:

  • Height: 157 cm
  • For candidates belonging to the areas of Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, and candidates belonging to the states of Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, and Leh & Ladakh regions: Height can be relaxed by 2.5 cm.
  • Meeting these physical standards is essential for candidates to progress through the SSC GD Constable selection process.

Physical standards- Chest Expansion 

Chest expansion is only for males.

Minimum Chest Required for SSC GD Constable (Male Candidates):

  • General, SC & OBC: 80 cm (Minimum expansion of 5 cm)
  • Scheduled Tribes: 76 cm (Minimum expansion of 5 cm)
  • Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas, and candidates belonging to the States of Assam, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir:78 cm (Minimum expansion of 5 cm)
  • Candidates hailing from North Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura:77 cm (Minimum expansion of 5 cm)

Female Candidates:

Chest measurements are not applicable for female candidates.

Detailed Medical Examination (DME) for SSC GD Constable:

Following the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST), successful candidates proceed to the Detailed Medical Examination (DME). During the DME, candidates undergo a thorough examination conducted by doctors or surgeons to assess their medical condition. Several criteria are considered during this examination. While the specific details may vary, some general criteria for the Detailed Medical Examination include:

1. Near Vision:

   Minimum visual acuity of N6 (better eye) and N9 (worse eye).

2. Distant Vision:

   6/6 (better eye) and 6/9 (worse eye) without correction (i.e., without wearing glasses).

3. No Deformities:

   Candidates should not have knock knees, flat foot, varicose veins, or squint in the eyes.

4. No Visual Correction:

   The eye standards should be met without any visual correction (even by glasses).
